I know Wednesdays are not always easy so I thought I would talk about something very midweek appropriate topic. Coffee!! Yay!!

 

More specifically bulletproof coffee or Keto coffee.

I prefer to call it Keto coffee, for…well reasons. Anyway Keto coffee is a great way to start your day. Not only does it taste delicious, and help you hit your macros but it also gives you a nice energy boost. I’ll explain why in just a minute.  

 

Let’s dive in!

 

When I first started Keto I had some trouble getting my fat count up there. Of course when doing something new it does take a little time to figure things out. So I started looking around and after doing some research I decided I would try out Keto coffee.

 

There are about a million different versions of keto coffee so really the possibilities are endless, though you should not get too crazy. It’s easy to  go over your fat goals. Especially once you get into the swing of things. When I first started I was putting coconut oil, butter, 5 drops stevia and a sprinkle of pink sea salt into a blender with 12 oz of brewed coffee. My blender is kind of weak so it takes about a minute to blend this together.

 

While this was a delicious combo, it simply became too much because I like to have a second cup, either in the morning or in the afternoon. It would drive my fat, and calorie count way up. Also this is extremely filling, and I wouldn’t want to eat breakfast. Which would be ok except i prefer to take my medicine and vitamins in the morning. Without eating something before taking them I would feel very nauseous.

Then I switched to coconut oil and a little heavy cream. This helped some I wasn’t quite as full but I was still able to have my fancy frothy coffee. After a little while of having this coffee I decided that having such a heavy coffee in the morning just wasn’t working out for me. I’d much rather be able to have a little bit bigger breakfast then a heavy coffee.

 

Which brings us to my current go-to. Super simple two tablespoons heavy whipping cream, one tablespoon Torell sugar-free vanilla syrup, 6 drops of stevia and a sprinkle of himalayan pink sea salt. I am definitely considering getting a milk frother because I’ve heard a lot of people use those to blend their coffee and for something as simple as heavy cream I’m sure it’d be perfect.

 

Alright so let’s talk about the benefits, beyond getting your fat count up. The big one is energy. We all need it especially in the morning. The main goal of following the Keto way of eating or Keto lifestyle is to become a fat burner. This means that your body will use fat as the main source of fuel.

 

From the research I’ve read for a lot of people this is the ideal energy source for their body. I definitely feel that that is true for me as well. Then it stands to reason if you give your body a large helping of fat it’s going to result in a boost of energy. The best way to do this is to actually aim for MCT in your coffee.

 

MCT stands for Medium Chain Triglycerides. A very common way to get MCT is coconut oil. Some people like to add straight MCT oil to their coffee. This is not possible for everyone straight MCT oil can do a number on some people’s stomachs. So it’s definitely recommended to take it slow. I myself haven’t tried it yet but it is something I plan on doing in the future. Perhaps after I get a frother or a more powerful blender

The reason why these are the best is because your body can use these as instant energy, it doesn’t have to be broken down first. Also it is said that MCTs can help keep you full longer, this is a big help for those of us trying to lose weight. When we actually feel full we’re a lot less likely to mindless snack.

It’s not just MCTs that can help you feel full longer. Having a high fat diet helps you to overall feel full for a longer time. That’s one of the reasons why the Keto diet is effective at helping people to lose weight. Starting your day with a fatty coffee will help you get to lunch and sometimes beyond.

DIY: Wardrobe Reduction

Good Morning!!! Yay for Friday!!

I am excited to share this with you today!! This has been something I have been thinking about doing for quite some time.

Reducing my wardrobe!

Scary yes but let me tell you it feels pretty great now that it’s done. I decided it was time because my husband is getting out of the army in a few months!! Yay! We decided we are going to live with his parents for a few months during our transition. This way we can save some money and find a house! Super exciting, can’t wait to plant some roots. Also being able to do what we want to the space will be pretty amazing too.

So let’s get started!

Before you start it’s a good idea to really sit down and hop on pinterest or google and decide what you want your day to day look to be. Some have a few different go-to looks and that’s ok but you’re going to have more clothes for each look, it’s probably going to add up quickly. I decided that I want to keep a really simple and classic silhouette. A classy jeans and a shirt look. This to me covers all the bases because it’s very easy to dress up, when you want to look a little nicer. Also it’s comfortable, when chasing two little guys this is key.

I highly suggest music as the first step. In my opinion music is always needed, no matter what the project is. Alright step two, I went drawer by drawer took everything out then made different piles. One for keep, one for sentimental, and a don’t keep pile. The sentimental it mostly made up of tshirts. That I will most likely make into a blanket, so they don’t need to be taking up space in my dresser or closet.

An important note to add is to be real with yourself. You know what you’re going to wear and what you just “ might want to wear sometime.” We all have those and I completely get that it’s hard to let go of these things, but really it needs to be done. This is where having decided your look before you start is helpful. Then you don’t think about how you’d wear it, as much as you think about how it fits into your look.

This is what did not make the cut!

Once you go through everything, then it’s time to put things away. This is my favorite part! Not only because my room/ bed is a mess now but because it’s exciting to see the things that made the cut going into their new homes. The way that I organized it is to have all my t-shirts upfront, and color coded. These are the base of just about all my outfits so that’s where I need to start. Then I have all my long sleeves and cover ups, color coded. This makes it really easy to build an outfit.

Part of my goal was to have almost all my wardrobe in my closet, and I did it!! The only things not in my closet are undergarments and tank tops. It’s important to note that I do have a hanging shelf unit in my closet. I use it for comfy clothes, and bottoms. I also moved all my pullover hoodies into a tub that can fit under the bed. This way they are still easy to get to but their bulkiness isn’t taking up valuable space.

When we move I won’t be able to use my dresser, very sad but it takes up a lot of space. My dresser was one of my first big makeover projects and I think it came out pretty amazing. I will definitely be sad not to have it but it’ll be temporary, and I’m sure it’ll be so great when I do get to get it back out and use it again.

Keto: Cheat Day Evolution

Good morning all! Welcome to another wonderful Wednesday!!

I am definitely working very hard to stay on the positive side of things. And as other women can I’m sure, back me up in saying: there is a time of month when this is a very hard thing to do. Especially if you’re getting used to the keto diet. Idk about you guys but I want everything processed and terrible while suffering from my red plague (or lady time, period whatever you like to call it.)

This is the the time that I save my cheat day for. While trying to lose weight it really is best to limit your cheat days especially if you are going to have carbs. I am working my way towards having keto focused cheat days but I’m not quite there yet.

And that’s ok!!

Everything does not have to be instant. Yes we would like it to be but realistically if you want something to last it’s most likely going to take some time. When I started out with Keto my cheat days were pretty crazy and it definitely took a long time to recover from it. Also it would make me feel not great for a couple days while I got back on track.

My favorite cheat meal was honey BBQ boneless wings from pizza hut. Which are 132 carbs per 10 pieces!!! Oh my goodness gracious that is a lot. And of course that’s not all I’d have either. Sometimes I’d also have chips and ice cream because well I didn’t feel well and it was my cheat day. After two months of this i realized that this really wasn’t good. So I found a different way to go about it.

I started making my own BBQ chicken bites. Just cubed chicken cooked then covered in BBQ sauce. I’m on the hunt for a better more keto friendly BBQ sauce. As of right now the sauce I use is 14 carbs per 2 TBSP. Much better than 132. This helped me move my Cheat day carb count from 200-300 to around 50. I still very much enjoy myself but I don’t feel as crummy after and it doesn’t take as long to get back into ketosis.

Another thing I changed is I went from having chips and Ice cream to having one or the other. My favorite chips are Kettle brand salt and vinegar. So far i haven’t found a keto replacement for salt and vinegar chips. I did find a better ice cream though. Halo Top! So good! They use erythritol instead of sugar so much more keto friendly. I’ve only had a few flavors but they’ve been tasty.

These are my cheat day essentials! Other than these things I keep it Keto the rest of the day. This way I tend to feel better, stomach wise and guilt wise. Which is another important point, be aware that you are going to have cheat days. That’s ok! Just be aware and don’t let it derail your efforts. Remember why you’re doing this, whether it’s to lose weight, for medical reasons, or just because you want to live a healthier lifestyle that’s not ruled by sugar. Forgive yourself, you need to have a healthy relationship with yourself if you want to have a lasting healthy lifestyle.

There it is my Keto Cheat Day! It’s still a work in process but that’s ok! I’m learning more about myself and growing into a more confident and healthy women! How do you guys do cheat days? Love Yourself: Lemon Sugar Scrub

Welcome to Friday all!

I’m sure a lot of you spent a lot of the week outside. Maybe in pools, maybe just soaking up the sun. Either way I’m sure your skin is feeling thirsty! It can do a number on your skin being outside a lot especially if you’re in the pool or ocean. Also during summer us girls shave our legs a whole lot more. This too can easily dry out and rough up your skin.

Worry not I’m here to help! It’s never a bad time to pamper yourself!

I’ve definitely been feeling that way lately. Like I need to stop ad focus on me for a few. Well sugar scrubs are one of my favorite pamper myself things. Even though it really is something quick and simple that I just add to my shower routine, but it really feels amazing.

Lemon sugar is my favorite!

Citrus is so invigorating the smell is so refreshing and uplifting. This always helps me feel better. And I know that I’m doing something that is for me and that helps too.

There are many other benefits of using a sugar scrub.

Not only does it smell and feel great, but using a sugar scrub can increase circulation. I tend to have not so great circulation in my legs, so any extra help is always good. Using sugar scrub an amazing exfoliator. Using a scrub after you shave ensures that your pores are cleaned out. This prevents those red bumps that no one likes. Lemon oil also is an antifungal which means it can help with dandruff. It may seem weird to use a sugar scrub on your scalp but it can help to refresh your scalp, reduce dandruff, and increase circulation for improved hair growth.

I wouldn’t recommend using the scrub on your scalp more than once a week as the abrasiveness may become too much for your hair.

As for your body I would recommend using the scrub a few times a week, at most every other day. You don’t want to over exfoliate your skin.

Alright let’s make some scrub!

I like to make scrub in small batches. This will help to make sure that the oil is distributed throughout the jar and doesn’t dry out. Also I like to change up the scrubs I used and making small batches means I will actually use up the one I have before making a new one.

I use a small wide mouth mason jars. The ones I have right now hold a cup of sugar perfectly. I also highly recommend getting some plastic screw on lids, because traditional mason jar lids are just no fun when you’re trying to use your scrub in the shower.

For the scrub I use:
-1 cup Sugar
-2 tbsp Almond Oil
-1-2 tbsp Melted Coconut oil
-1 Tsp Lemon Oil

I highly recommend mixing it in a bigger bowl then putting it into the jar. Especially if you tend to be messy like I do. Then you’re good to go! Super easy right? Workout Motivation (with playlist!)

Welcome to Wednesday!!

Happy independence day as well!

Let’s celebrate our independence from laziness and self doubt. I know that it’s hard to get and stay motivated but it is possible. Sometimes we just need a little boost a little reminder of what our goals are in the first place. That’s my goal for us today.

I want to help you feel ready to take on anything and start crushing some goals. Even if you’re the only one who knows about them.

Ready to get started?

We all struggle from time to time. For me I become tired. I become so tired that I fall asleep putting my boys to bed almost every night and I stop waking up early in favor of getting more sleep. But is this really helping me? No I don’t think it is.

I start to become cranky from lack of time spent on myself, I’m only human after all. Also my energy levels just continue to drop, because I’m no longer taking the time for workouts. At this point I’m dying for some coffee or a nap midday. Then i realize what’s going on and I have to wrestle myself back into a routine.

The first day is always the hardest to get in motion.

But I can honestly say once I get moving it almost always feels good that I am. There are times when I do struggle through, but thats where some awesome music comes in. I have put together a playlist of upbeat songs that is definitely random but is perfect for me to keep my energy high.

I’m sharing that playlist with you today!(at the bottom)

Maybe it won’t be for you with some of its extreme random and throwback ness but if you give it a try you might just like it. By having all sorts of music in there it makes me excited about what I’ll hear next and it keeps me light hearted when songs I loved from high school come. I can’t help but laugh because I know all the words (and because they’re still so good!) I will throw this out there that this is also a great mix to clean too and there is some explicit content. Not a ton, but if you have kids like I do I recommend giving it a pre listen before using it as a dance party mix.

If it’s not for you I urge you to take the time to make your own mix. Trying to get back into the routine of working out or just working out in general when it’s just you and your head may not be the best plan. I know I’m very good at talking myself out of things, but with music I’m too distracted.

It’s all about the little things!

The little things you can do to ensure your success. Such as having music, or putting your water bottle in the fridge before bed so its so nice and cold in the morning. Maybe you should also take the time the night night before and look at your goals. Which if you haven’t already I HIGHLY recommend physically writing them down. This is very helpful for the times for when you are really struggling and you think you don’t want anything. Also once they are written down it’s like you are holding yourself accountable to actually get them done. I am also a big fan of motivational quotes, I print them out and put them everywhere.

Keto: Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Happy Monday all!

I hope you had a fun and safe weekend full of laughter and good food. This weekend I found myself craving a bowl of cereal. Before I started Keto I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast just about every morning. It was always the perfect combo of sweet and crunchy.

So I decided that I would try and make a Keto friendly Cinnamon Toast crunch!!

Well my first attempt actually came out pretty great. There may be a time that I take another look at this recipe and revise it but for now it was good enough for me.

Lets get started!!

Here’s what you’ll need. (With links to the products I use.)

For the Cereal:
-1 egg
-1 TBSP Cinnamon
-2 TBSP Erythritol
-1 ¾ cups Almond Flour

For the topping:

-1 TBSP butter (melted)
-1 Tbsp cinnamon
-2 TBSP Erythritol

Now to put it together:

Step one: Turn oven to 350 to preheat. Mix the erythritol and cinnamon together for the topping.

Step two: Whisk egg, cinnamon, and erythritol together
Step three: Mix in Almond flour, I use a baking spatula. Stir until a dough ball forms.
Step four: Place dough ball onto parchment paper and flatten it out some with your hands. I put a baking mat on the counter before parchment to keep it from sliding around.

Step five: Put another piece of parchment over the dough and roll it out. Be patient! Go slowly. I’d recommend flipping the dough and parchment sandwich from time to time. The bottom parchment will bunch up under the dough, this will cause the dough to crack. Be sure to roll it out very thin. About a cm thick if you can manage it. My first attempt I made them much too thick. It was a not hard to chew but just not the right texture.
Step six: Once the dough is rolled out cut it into small inch by inch squares or smaller. I went a little smaller but not consistently >_<.

Step seven: Bake the squares for about 20 mins. Be sure to check on them after ten minutes. The Edges are likely to cook faster and should be taken off the tray to cool then put the rest back in.
Step eight: While the squares are still warm brush them with butter and sprinkle with the topping mixture. Flip and repeat on the other side. I found that sprinkling the cereal puts a better amount of topping on there rather than putting the butter brushed pieces directly into the mix. To me that was just too much.

Step nine: Enjoy! Start small though this gets very filling very fast. I recommend a cup or less of cereal with some unsweetened almond milk.

Organization: Cleaning Schedual

Happy Friday all!!

 

Today I want to talk to you about cleaning. I know, I know not a topic we really get excited about, but we all know it’s something that must be done.

 

I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but I seem to not do anything for a couple days then I hate my house. Then I try to clean everything in one day. This always get super frustrating because with two little guys i really don’t have all day to clean. I knew there must be a better way.

 

I came up with a cleaning schedule. This way i could have everything planned out instead of just swinging blindly at an ever growing problem. By having it scheduled out I don’t have to think about what i want to get done that day I just have to check what’s listed.

 

Also this way if i get sick for a few days and get behind if I just stick to my schedule everything will get done. Yes the house might be a little messy for a couple days, but it will all get done. If you keep to the schedule you will be amazed at how clean your house is with only maybe an hour of work a day. For those who aren’t at home all day this will take less time because you wont have as many dishes and kid messes to keep up with.

 

Just like any habit it does take some time to get into.

 

Do your best not to get discouraged!! It is possible to have a clean house with minimal effort. Of course my exact schedule may not work for everyone you may need to make your own adjustments. I am very hopeful that i can at lease inspire you and set you on the path to an easier week.

The way that I break down my schedule is to have morning and evening tasks, then daily tasks, and a couple monthly tasks.

 

Morning Tasks:

  • Empty Dishwasher
  • Clean Counters
  • Make Beds
  • Tidy Bedrooms
  • Load of Laundry

 

For the morning tasks, I like to try and empty the dishwasher and clean the counters before my boys wake up. Making the beds and tidying the bedrooms is something that I have been trying to get the boys to do when they wake up. Usually it’s nothing more than maybe a few pieces of clothes, a book or two and maybe a couple toys. So it really should only take a couple minutes. It really makes a big difference to me to have clean bedrooms. Also this is the time that I gather up the laundry. Currently I only do laundry Mondays and fridays, with an occasional wednesday load.

 

Evening Tasks:

  • Fold/ Put away the laundry
  • Tidy Living Room
  • Vacuum
  • Loose Dishes
  • Run Dishwasher

 

For evening tasks, we try to have the living room tidied and vacuumed before dinner. This way after dinner they can play games with Daddy while i clean up from dinner and do the loose dishes. Folding the laundry is not something I”m great it keeping up with. Something new I’m trying is folding the laundry while my boys are watching their nightly movie, or at quiet time. This way I can put the laundry away when we go up for bed. The boys get a minute to be crazy before we settle down for be and I don’t leave laundry baskets everywhere.

 

Daily Tasks:

  • Monday

                -Wash sheets and blankets

                 -Clean Couches

                 -Night- Empty Bathroom Garbages

  • Tuesday

               -Sweep/ Swiffer 

               -Vacuum bedrooms

  • Wednesday

                -Dust/ Disinfect

                -Windows

  • Thursday

               -Declutter

               -Tidy Outside

               -Sweep/ Swiffer

  • Friday

              -Clean Bathrooms

              -Wash towels

               -Dusts/ Disinfect

  • Saturday

              – Free day!!!

  • Sunday:

               -Sweep

              -Mop

              -Monthly Task

 

Monthly tasks**:

  1. Wash Walls
  2. Clean out fridge and Microwave
  3. Clean/ Tidy Hall closets
  4. Clean Game room
